A diagnosis of childhood cancer is literally life-changing. It’s the start of a very difficult and emotional journey for the whole family. Thankfully seven out of ten children will now survive but many children suffer long term side effects from their treatment. Each year there are approximately 3.500 new cases of childhood cancer. Treatment can take up to three years, meaning CLIC Sargent is supporting around 10,000 families in the UK at any one time.

CLIC Sargent is enormously grateful for the funds raised by OilAid 2007 and would like to thank all the organisers, especially Michael Holland for involving our charity in the event for the past three years. CLIC Sargent receives little government funding and relies on the generosity of events such as OilAid in order to maintain our much needed services for children living with cancer and their families.

The money raised through OilAid has made a real difference to the lives of children living with cancer and leukaemia in the UK. The money donated by OilAid in 2007 will enable us to fund two CLIC Sargent Social Workers for an entire year, providing support to an average of 50 families each. These social workers provide a life-line for families looking after a child with cancer. They not only help families cope with the emotional stresses and strains of caring for a child who is really ill, but also help with practical necessities like applying for benefits, taking care of siblings and helping parents sort out work and financial commitments.
